Auf der Walz in Indien

Auf der Walz, mein Kunst-Projekt von Juni bis
Dezember 2019, habe ich mich mit den Verbindungen von Kunst, Textil, Kultur beschäftigt und diese im Kontext von Tradition und Moderne erforscht.
Mein Motto: Follow the line.
Meine Walz begann auf dem Landweg von München nach Istanbul. Dort lehrte mich Professorin Serife Atlihan das Brettchenweben. Im Textilen Zentrum Haslach, Österreich nahm ich an der ETN-Konferenz (European-Textile-Network) teil. Im Wendland, auf dem Werkhof Kukate konnte ich während eines Praktikums Webstühle einrichten, Weben und mich mit der Bindungslehre beschäftigen.
Weiter ging es für vier Monate nach Indien. In meinem Praktikum beim Textil Label We Are Kal in Ladakh, Nordindien lernte ich die Lebensweise der Nomaden, die Wollproduktion und den Prozess der Verarbeitung von Schaf-, Lamm- und Yak-Wolle kennen. In Assam, Nordostindien standen das Färben mit Naturfarbstoffen und das Weben von Eri-Seide im Fokus.
Mein besonderes Interesse galt Ikat, einer textilen Färbe- und Webtechnik. An unterschiedlichen Orten in den Staaten Odisha, Telangana und Tamil Nadu, Ost- und Südindien bekam ich Einblicke in diese Technik. Mit dem Textil Label Oshadi setzte ich eigene Entwürfe als Ikat-Stoffe um.

Auf der Walz, my art project from June to December 2019 was about looking for the connections between art, textiles, culture and researches in the context of tradition and modernity.

My journey started in Munich all the way to Istanbul. Professor Serife Atlihan taught me tablet weaving there.
In the Textile Center Haslach, Austria I took part in the ETN conference (European-Textile-Network). In Wendland, Germany on the Werkhof Kukate, I set up looms, wove and dealt with the theory of weaving during my internship.
It went on to India for four months. During my internship at the textile label We Are Kal in Ladakh, Northern India, I got to know the way of life of the nomads, the wool production and the process of processing sheep-, lamb- and yak wool. In Assam, northeast India, the focus was on dyeing with natural dyes and weaving Eri silk.
I was particularly interested in Ikat, a textile dying and weaving technique. I gained an insight into this technique at different locations in the states of Odisha, Telangana and Tamil Nadu, East and South India. With the textile label Oshadi I was able to create my own designs for Ikat fabrics.
